What Does an Employee Benefits Broker Do?

Updated: Dec 5, 2018

Not all employee benefits brokers are the same. Some may work for one organization, such as a large health provider, and therefore steer you only through choices from that provider. Others may be tied to more than one provider but may specialize in only one type of benefit. Still others may have a larger base of benefit options to consider but may or may not have as much depth of knowledge across all the choices.

What can Van Hal Insurance Services do for you?

  • Provide information and assist you in choosing various forms of insurance including health, life, disability, dental, vision, and more.

  • Help ensure your company stays compliant with the Affordable Care Act (ACA), the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), and other regulations that are relevant for the benefits you offer.

  • Advise you on how to minimize total costs including how to reduce total premiums.

  • Assist with employee communications related to benefit enrollment.

  • Create a customized insurance package for your organization.

  • Negotiate and review insurance contracts with benefit providers to help you get a good deal.

  • Assist you in resolving problems. Ed will act as a go=between for you to help resolve any problems with claims or adminstration of the benefits

  • Analyze your existing benefits and claims to provide advice on changes and potential cost savings.

  • Advise you on changes to benefit packages based on your employee demographics as well as analyze previous utilization rates.

  • Assist employees who have benefit, coverage, or claims questions or who need help with claims.

  • Educate employees about their options during open enrollment.

Remember, not all brokers provide these services. It pays to ask, in advance, which of the items listed above will be provided. The more services a broker provides, the greater (s)he is able to assist you and your employees.

As an independent broker with 35+ years of experience, Ed is committed to providing quality insurance options for both groups and individuals at affordable prices.
